We decided spending some days in the far west of the US, drive along the coast, visit several National Parks and visit our friends in Oregon. We arrived in Yosemite NP yesterday but most of the snow was gone due to some warmer weather over Christmas. The park is crowded as usual with way too many people especially not respecting park rules. Today, after a rainy start in Mariposa we went for a shorter hike to Vernal Falls but some heavy snowfall and wintry conditions did not get us to the top of the falls nor did we get a real good look at the falls at all.
We did not expect the weather to clear up at all but we were lucky (or not) as with the sun coming out, the temperatures rising slightly above freezing point more people came to the park. I may just be too spoiled from Yellowstone but I simply can not stand those crowds anymore.
This is the view at the Half Dome west of Yosemite Village. I had to wait several minutes to get this shot and change the angle of the shot as people walked into the picture and heads were popping up.
Most likely we will drive back to the coast tomorrow and see whether we will find some nice and peaceful places again.
