We are now away from home for one week and we have a few more days prior to our return home. Our trip was quite successful so far despite the fact the we were not as productive as last year. That’s the joy of being a nature photographer as you may wish for certain events to happen but nature simply does not work this way. Yesterday we took a longer tour from Tromso towards Mikkelvik looking for another spot for photographing the northern lights and maybe the milky way. During the day trip we got rewarded watching a larger group of orcas feeding in the fjord near Futrikelv together with one humpback. Then we visited the old graveyard (gravlund) in Mikkelvik which is pretty small, very remote and has a separate space for those who left us way too early.
Our night trip back towards our morning location was not as successful as planned though the forecast was not too bad but heavy clouds covered the moon and the stars preventing my night landscape photography completely. After waiting for almost an hour we decided to head slowly back to our hotel and got rewarded with some beautiful auroras near Tromso with almost clear skies. The forecast did not lie to us – it was simply two hours delayed. Lucky and tired we decided to end the day close to midnight returning to the hotel almost at 1 AM in the morning. Here’s a few images from the auroras taken last night.
