I usually do not post lots around history or politics as this blog is mainly for our travel activities. Yet, when we travel history surrounds us. Today we have past a memorial in Below forest that marks one of the darkest and vile times in our history. When I was in school I have visited one of the concentration camps and learned a lot and today almost 30 years later I had to learn more. Maybe the weather knew where we were heading today. It was drizzling, grey and cold but nothing compared how the people must have felt in April 1945. Sick, tortured and almost starved to death were they forced miles and miles per day. We need to keep what happened present in our mind and make sure that this is not going to happen again.

Thank you for your post. I follow Auschwitz Traveling Exhibition which just extended it’s stay in New York through August. I am hoping it will come to Chicago, but if not, a trip to NY is always a good idea. As heartbreaking as the stories are to read, I think it’s vitally important we read and remember.
