2021 was our last time where we enjoyed the beautiful winter wonderland in Sweden and Finland. Now early 2024 it’s time for a comeback. This time traveling a completely different. We started our trip with the night ferry from Travemünde to Helsinki which departed at 2:30AM and traveled 29 hours across the fortunately calm and quiet Baltic Sea. After a few hours in grey and cold Helsinki the Polar Express or the night train brought us and our car safely to Rovaniemi over night. Last week and the week before Scandinavia suffered from record breaking low temperatures with temperatures as low as -43°C. Nothing we are looking for – we do feel comfortable between -18°C and -30°C but it significantly warmed up to -16°C already and our hunt for Northern Lights is not possible with the current cloud coverage here between Rovaniemi and further north. Therefore, we enjoy walks in the cold and today we visited Korouoma Canyon with the frozen waterfalls. A scenic and slippery 5k hike with lots to see.
Time for black and white images – for the most part.
