Time to hit the brakes and take a couple of days off for vacation. This year we decided to fly again to Florida where chances to have a warmer climate are much more likely than in Germany. Luckily, we departed on the 22nd of December one day later after the chaotic shutdown of the airport due to heavy snowfall. Lufthansa provided us an early Christmas gift: A free upgrade to business class – Thank you!
We departed an hour late but arrived almost in time and picked up a brand new (10 miles) Nissan Murango. After checking into our hotel in Miami Beach we had a nice and decent walk along the beach and felt the warm breeze of tropical air. We had salad for dinner and our server was from Leipzig, Germany – what a small world.
I woke up the next day around 3:20 AM and we finally left our comfortable bed around 5:00 AM. With an early drive towards Naples we had breakfast across the entry of Shark Valley Loop Trail which is part of the Everglades National Park. This time we decided to rent bicycles and ride the 15 mile loop. We had a great time and have seen already plenty of birds, alligators and luckily no mosquitos.
Later that day we arrived in Naples where we are going to visit friend of us and of course we enjoyed a lovely sunset though it was pretty windy with a high surf. The weather forecast is predicting another cold front dropping temperatures down again during Christmas.
