If you ask professional photographers whether you should use artificial light for creating your images or not you are going to divide them and this gets even worse among the large crowd of amateurs
Well, my opinion is clear and I use flash – especially fill flash – for lots of my portraits. My most reliable results are achieved with the combination of Canon flashlights and Canon cameras. If you use your flash to fill the shadows you will get results where the overall image still looks natural.
Nonetheless, for some situations the available light or the intended use of shadows is a stylistic device to create a real unique image and style.
