By accident we came across an event that we have not seen live so far and we took our chances to take a look at Europe’s longest dog-sled race in Norway. The Finnmarkslopet: 1200km mostly through wilderness all on your own with your. Wind, cold and 8 long days and short nights with less sleep than anyone can imagine. There are two smaller classes that we were not able to see but it way an amazing feeling for me to see this live. I tend to get too emotional for these kind of things.
The first people we talked to were from Germany as well and they support Petter Jahnsen during the run. Thanks Wolfram and Tanja for sharing some insights to a sport that I do not know much about.
Below there are many images that we shot today at the checkpoint in Levajok during the day and I will work on some from Jergul later but with no light from the sky it was incredible dark.
Check the website, the facebook page for all the stories and updates – well worth it. Some little drama happened as the one of the top three mushers Ronny Frydenlund shortly after leaving the checkpoint in Levajok had to return and retire one dog with a sore wrist.
