Last year on our fall trip through Germany where we learned a lot about the death marches in Germany during WWII we did not manage to visit Usedom. Yesterday we had the time to visit Peenemünde and the area where the foundation of travel to space was laid. Unfortunately again with a dark spot in our history. The area is impressive and the inventions made are huge but many innocent had to pay a high price for it. If you are in the are we would recommend to walk from the museum all around to the historic airport, the concentration camp and the train station. A good 8km walk but well worth it as you have time to reflect what you have seen and learned in the museum.
